Carefully handcrafted in Japan using soft, lightweight weave, this design is printed by hand with 3-colour silkscreen onto premium 100% cotton, giving it a smooth feel and elegant drape. The edges are carefully hand rolled and sewn. This piece measures 53 × 53 cm.
Designed by Hannah Waldron, a UK-based artist and designer specializing in designing and creating research-led unique printed and woven textiles that have an emphasis on storytelling.
"Arriving in Tokyo city in that magic time between night and day, our train meanders through a tetris like metropolis, we become enveloped in a world of blocks, but as we look more we begin to see the traces of times past. Windows appear to flicker on and off, as people come and go, the city that never sleeps welcomes us with its glow." - Hannah Waldron
How to use furoshiki?
Furoshiki is the original multi-use textile. The Japanese have been using them to wrap things since the 17th century, but today they’re worn as chic scarves, carried as lightweight bags and displayed as works of art. Check out the many ways to use the textile here.
